"A Blush & Bashful Weekend" Steel Magnolias Style

For thirty years, Historic Natchitoches, Louisiana has been synonymous with the 1989 Hit movie, Steel Magnolias. Natchitoches is the setting for the movie penned by Robert “Bobby” Harling, the screenwriting of Steel Magnolias. Based on a true story, Harling payed tribute to his sister who passed away and his mother and the women who supported them during this difficult time of their lives. Out of tragedy emerged the screenplay which eventually made it to the big screen and has become a beloved movie for all ages.

The thirty-year anniversary of this timeless classic is being honored with the “Blush and Bashful Weekend” that will pay tribute to the movie. From November 7-14, 2019, a series of activities and events will take place including an Armadillo Cake Contest, Easter Egg Hunt and Children’s Activities on the riverbank of Cane River Lake, a Steel Magnolias Movie Panel discussion and displays at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame & Northwest Louisiana History Museum, character look alike contests, and brunch at the Prudhomme-Rouquier House.

To top the celebration, “A Blush and Bashful Evening” will be hosted at the site of the home where the majority of the movie was filmed now know as the Steel Magnolia House located on Jefferson Street in downtown Natchitoches.

Bobby Harling will make an appearance at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum to tell the “story behind the story” that inspired him to write Steel Magnolias. The event is free and open to the public and will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 2p.m.
