The Louisiana Association of Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technicians hosted their annual EMS Educational and Advocacy Conference in historic downtown Natchitoches Louisiana at Chateau Saint Denis Hotel earlier this month. Over 100 LANREMT members attended the three day conference that consisted of educational seminars and hands on training opportunities; including an Active Shooter Response Drill.

The association also reaches out to engage and educate the community. On Wednesday evening the public was invited to participate in a "Stop the Bleed" class that was presented by Life Air Rescue Flight Nurse, Ruth Hubbard, and Flight Paramedic, Jay Caskey. The class gave attendees the skills needed to recognize and stop dangerous bleeding until help arrives. Students learned how to apply tourniquets and pack wounds. Each student got to practice their skills on each other and on simulated wounds.

LANREMT's mission is the enhancement of the EMS profession through advocacy, education and awareness. Founded in 1976, LANREMT works with many EMS associations in Louisiana to strengthen the EMS System and to ensure quality patient care. LANREMT is the state affiliate of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, NREMT, and is a member of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, NAEMT.
